Spanish Talker Intuition Regarding Rate of Speech Repository
A University of Michigan Speech Production Lab project
Project Background
How do dialects of Spanish differ from one another? How do Spanish speakers perceive these differences? What are the specific language features that make one Spanish more challenging to learn than others?
To help researchers answer these questions, the STIRRS repository presents data from across the internet about how speech rates of different Spanish variations are perceived by Spanish speakers themselves.
About the Repository
Welcome to STIRRS! The Spanish Talker Intuition Regarding Rate of Speech (STIRRS) repository was created by [redacted for review] in an effort to consolidate and highlight the many spontaneous (i.e., non-elicited) and semi-spontaneous (i.e., open response) public judgments about the rate of speed at which different varieties of Spanish are spoken. It was made publicly available in Summer 2023 and built in Omeka S, an open-source archiving tool. STIRRS is a project of the University of Michigan Speech Production Lab, which is led by Dr. Henriksen and Dr. García-Amaya and housed in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures.
