As I started settling down, Chileans and other English speaking foreigners or “gringos” apprised me that few people spoke English in South America and that Chile was the worst country to teach yourself Spanish. The Chilean dialect is fast-paced and has a distinct pronunciation from the rest of South America. Chileans drop some of the alphabets, such as s, from the end of the word and even on your lucky day, would bombard you with idioms. Couldn’t they have sent a note before?
